SPAY-LEE was invited to the Sterling House Nursing Center tonight for a Halloween Costume Contest for dogs! Not as big a turn out as last year, but much less confusing! Lot’s of really cute outfits! Denita’s crew came as “Chirates”, complete with a pirates ship, and music! My crew went as the cast from the Wizard of Oz. We had two flying monkeys (Fiona and Lucy), Toto (Buckey) and Walter came as Dorothy. Well, Walter won most original costume second year in a row!!!! All the dog’s were winners, and very well behaved! We had a good time, and all the residents seemed to enjoy themselves!

Last July we started to rescue 2 adult chihuahuas and 4 pups. the parents were abandoned in November 2009 by a family that moved away. that spring, they had 4 pups… 1 was trapped July 2010 and dad was taken. after a month of feeding mama every day, she was sedated and taken on labor day weekend. then, a month later 2 more pups were trapped by feeding them on a lanai of abandoned home and door was help open by brick tied to string and pulled trapping 2 of them. the final pup would not go in lanai, he was very smart! he watched as we drove away with his 2 siblings, being left alone to fend for himself out there in the palmettos, a few weeks later, we attempted to get him in lanai again, but as soon as he heard brick pulled he got out just in time before door slammed. he disappeared for a long time. i got a call from a neighbor saying he was back about 2 weeks after nearly getting trapped by us. then came winter… the cold frost nights… we never thought he would make it, but did. them a blessing happened, a nice young lady moved across from his living area in woods and palmettos… she agreed to feed him for us and try to catch him. it was a miracle as we were all discouraged. she fed him from January until today, he adopted her and the family as his yard. he was so lonely all alone. he got closer and closer to her, and we decided its time to get him as summer and rainy season is coming again.
he was medicated, and 50 minutes later he forgot he was afraid of her porch, went there for some treats she left, and she came up behind him. he ran under a lawn chair, she reached under and grabbed him by the back skin of the neck. he did not bite at all. she took him in and i went to pick him up. he was loaded with fleas, it was sad. he is very thin, has scars from ticks, and was crawling with bugs. i gave him a nice long bath and massage, flea combed him and tuck him in on his new comforter. he is not showing aggression at all, but terrified and not moving. he got to see his mama and sis again, mama wagged her tail in excitement and laid next to him, then sis Alison joined in.
i am going to try to get this story out to try to get people to be responsible for their animals and find homes for them when moving, not abandoning them, as this whole thing was so sad. it broke my heart terribly to see this family out there.
a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped, you are all Angels. These dogs will never be hungry, thirsty, hot or cold again.
The dad was adopted to a lady with 2 pugs in Sarasota as a shelter in Arcadia took him. he is heartworm positive. Mama is here, she hardly leaves my lap. she is heartworm positive.Winston Sebastion was adopted in 1 night by his foster mom Maria. He is very happy and healthy, has a chihuahua brother William Fendi was adopted by a wonderful family in N Ft Myers and has a brother chihuahua. he spent christmas in delaware and loved the snow! Alison Michelle is here with her mama, and the little “tomboy” of the house. she brings me sticks, mulch, and many treasures from outside. she waits for me to put her to bed at night. Rebel is here now sleeping in comfort, but not too sure about all this!!!!
