Here are pictures taken of the Halloween adoption day at PetSmart October 30 and 31.

The Halloween parade at the nursing home last night was a blast and all 35 dogs there got along great !  Congrats to Walter, the ol’ man who was the winner of the costume contest!  Good job Amy! Happy Halloweenie!
Denita  :)
Oct. 21st
Volunteer Denita’s kids are the Doxie hot dog, Chihuahua fairy, and the dog Emma was walking with the orange t-shirt.

Amy brought Princess Fiona and Santa Buckley.

Emma & Vic brought Superman Spirit – don’t think a good pic got taken of him tho.

I brought S-L adoptee MoJo who is a black Cocker Spaniel dressed up in a lion costume.

Jinx brought S-L adoptee Nayla who went to her new home last weekend.  YEAH!!

The 2 young girls (I believe) are Denita’s daughters

Walter, the Winner

Walter is a 10 yr. old Bloodhound who is up for adoption and fostered by Amy til he finds his forever home.  He won FIRST PLACE for MOST ORIGINAL costume dressed up as an Old Man.  Dobe Nayla found his beard to be most interesting and tried to eat it right off his face.

Tammy at DAS contacted Suzanne MacDonald, our volunteer in Naples…. Tammy said a sweet dobie pup was at the shelter, injured, and brought in on Thursday evening… found under a bush on Airport Road in Naples…. Suzanne called Judie who said “yes”. Suzanne went to DAS the following Monday and picked up ABBY, delivered pup to Jinx in Fort Myers who took Abby to Viscaya Prado Vet Hospital. Dr. McKelvie Xrayed and reported the bad news – it was a bad break, already trying to callous; might be able to pin it but would probably need plating which that clinic doesn’t do. Kim Liles, vet tech at Viscaya, agreed to foster Abby through her recovery. Abby was spayed on September 30, and off to see Dr. Hay (Veterinary Surgical Specialists in Tampa, Fla) with Jinx as chauffeur and Amy riding shotgun on Monday, October 4.

Abby underwent surgery on October 6 where the leg, that was trying to heal but nowhere near connected, had to be realigned and plated to hold the bone ends together. (see photos below) On October 8th, Vic and Emma Argento and Jinx drove on up to Tampa to pickup sweet Abby. Emma did a video of the physical therapy that Kim will do four times a day to keep that leg functional. Abby’s got to go back on Wednesday for a recheck and Jinx will do that run to Tampa again.

Many folks are praying for this little girl. She has the best chance for a normal life but the cost is over $2000. It’s put quite a dent in our financial status, and we are embarrassed to say we’d appreciate any assistance.  If you can donate to Abby’s cause, please e-mail Jude at apic@aol.com or click this link to chip immediately. But no matter what, Abby’s worth it! Priceless!

Emma sent in pictures of some of the SPAY-LEE volunteer staff and foster pets who were at Pet Smart last Saturday and Sunday.PetSmart 03-20 and 21-2010

You can see these fine folks and the foster pets on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th weekend of every month at the PetSmart Page Field Commons.

Here is the Shelter Challenge link from Donna:

Shelter Challenge Results @ The Animal Rescue Site

She says, “Hopefully we can get more than just 3-5 votes per day this time. Next challenge begins this coming Sunday – Jan. 18th. Thanks!”

Come to PetSmart Page Field Commons on December 19 or 20 from 11 a.m. till 4 pm.  That’s a Saturday and Sunday.  There you can see Donna’s hubby Randy, who will be Santa’s stand-in  and I hear he doesn’t need padding or even a fake beard!  You must see what a fabulous Santa’s stand-in he will be and a great guy to help out the real Santa and do this.  We all know this time of year is extremely busy for the real guy.  Carolyn Kimbrell’s husband, Robert, will be doing the photography, and he’s good at it.  You will be pleased.

The SPAY-LEE Santa (below) writes, “I think the digital photos will be in a very nice frame and the fee is $9.95, $5 of which goes to SPAY-LEE on December 19 and 20 only.”

We’ll be looking forward to seeing all our pet and people friends there!
December 19 and 20!

Wow!  Look at the big welcome the 3rd grade class at Immokalee Community School gave SPAY-LEE when they visited on December 7.  That’s a big banner!

Jinx brought along baby Savannah who is a mix of Chihuahua, Jack Russel Terrier, and Daschund in case any children were afraid of the big dogs, but there didn’t seem to be any.

It was a great day!

Donna George, a SPAY-LEE volunteer wrote the following about SPAY-LEE’s visit to Immokalee Community School:

“My friend Lori is the teacher of the class we visited.  I have never seen a group of kids better behaved.  These 20 kids come from migrant worker homes and for them to donate $224 to our cause is a spectacular feat for them.

Lori is teaching her kids that their pets should be family members and not just a possession.  That spaying and neutering their furry family members will save thousands of animals from being euthanized every year.

Thank you, Lori, for caring deeply for homeless animals and teaching your students to care just as much for their health and welfare.”
